Continue your fast-track introduction to free motion quilting with this 3-hour exploration of the Free-Motion Mastery in a Month process. Set up your sewing machine and find your perfect quilting speed. Use the Free-Motion Mastery in a Month step-by-step exercises to get comfortable quilting three basic shapes -- Teardrops, S-Curves and Spirals. Then, use these basic shapes to quilt Feathers! You'll go home with a practice plan to continue building your skills and best of all, you'll leave class saying "I can DO this!"

In this class you will learn how to:
- Quilt Teardrops, S-curves and Spirals
- Use these 3 simple shapes to quilt any feather
- Break down any complex design into its simplest shapes
- Pre-learn any pattern anytime, anywhere, before you sit down at the sewing machine.
- Join pre-quilted blocks to make a quilt of any size

The class is taught on domestic sewing machines, but the principles and exercises work equally well on a sit down or frame-mounted long-arm. The book includes instructions for domestic machines, as well as both sit-down and frame-mounted long-arm machines.

Required materials for class:

A sewing machine is required for this class. Please refer to the materials list for necessary accessories and set-up instructions. If you are taking the class at a show, and the show materials say that machines are provided, then the machines will include machine quilting foot, bobbins and thread.

This class does not require that you have a copy of the Free-Motion Mastery in a Month book or the tool kit. However, if you already have them, please bring them. They will be available for purchase in class. If you want to purchase them before class click here to view and purchase these materials in the store, or purchase them at the store where you are taking the class.

Fabric:
2 blocks of fabric 12” x 12” SOLID fabric, light color. 
2 blocks of fabric 12" x 12" SOLID fabric, dark color
2 squares of fusible batting 12" x 12"
2 strips 2.5" x WOF for binding

Thread: 
1 spool 40 or 50 weight high-quality, new, cotton or polyester thread in a color that coordinates with the print fabric and contrasts with the solid fabric.

Sewing tools: Thread-trimming scissors, quilting gloves (if you have them)

Sewing machine accessories and set-up: (Read and carefully follow instructions in materials list): Make sure the machine is working, cleaned and lubricated. Sew on it before you come to class to test it! Know how to drop the feed dogs. Know how to adjust the tension. Bring the instruction manual. Free-motion quilting foot or darning foot (make sure it is the correct foot for your machine and know how to attach it. Test it before class), 2 empty bobbins, new needles in sizes 80/12 and 90/14 “Universal’ and “Quilting” types.

Note to Presenters (Show, Store or Guild):
It is necessary to have a helper in the classroom that can assist with sewing machine issues. If sewing machines are provided at a show, this is usually a representative from the sewing machine manufacturer. At stores and guilds, please provide someone who can assist in this way, as it will help the class move more smoothly for everyone. Thank you.

Length: 3 hours
Project: 2 Free-motion quilted blocks, can be finished at home into mug rugs, tissue holders or other small project.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Prerequisites: Basic sewing skills
Materials Fee: $18 (Depending on where you take this class this might be included with the registration fee -- check with the venue.)
