Every time I teach my Layers & Lines lecture students say the same thing at the end: "I'll never look at a quilt the same way again!" Here are a few new ideas I've added to that lecture recently that can help you decide how to quilt your next quilt. 1 If your quilt has an allover piecing design, quilt with an allover quilting design.
2. If your quilt has a block layout, place quilting within boundaries of blocks, sashing & borders. Repeat design(s) in similar block(s).
3. If your quilt contains a representational panel, outline then enhance the pictures with the quilting. Quilt surrounding areas and borders with motifs that complement the panel.
4. If your quilt has a central medallion, build a quilting design around the central element(s) to enhance the design and fill empty space around it. If you wish, this can spread out into the borders.
