"Now that I can quilt, how do I know WHAT to quilt WHERE?"

Whenever I get to the end of a Free-Motion Mastery workshop, this is the most common question I'm asked.

The common answer is "Listen to your quilt" but that doesn't really help much.

Layers & Linestakes you through a series of questions -- a "conversation" with your quilt -- that will show you exactly  you how to plan a design.

Whether you plan to quilt a quilt yourself, or send it to someone to quilt for you, knowing how you want your quilting done will ensure that you'll be proud of your quilt and enjoy it for years to come.

How to Participate

Live view & recording:  $17
Watch the live presentation, then get a downloadable recording to remember what you learned! (If you can't attend live, you can still get the recording.) You'll have it to refer back to it every time you get ready to quilt a new quilt.

Submit a quilt for review during the lecture: $20 (limited to 6 participants)
A review approx. 10 minutes long of one quilt during the lecture. Submit pictures of your quilt before the lecture -- see instructions below

Private consultation:
Send me photos of your quilt and we will review it together to create a custom quilting plan for the quilt. Includes my pre-consultation preparation, then 30 minutes together over Zoom, with a recording to download and keep. (Depending upon the complexity of the quilts, we may be able to accommodate more than one quilt in the alotted time.)

Register now and finish those quilts!

After Layers & Lines, you will never look at a quilt -- including yours -- the same way again!

"Since I began quilting the prevailing instruction on choosing a quilting design, in everything I've read as well as advice from other quilt teachers and friends, has been: 'Listen to your quilt and it will tell you what it wants.' My quilts have been mute. Your class was the first to provide questions to ask about the quilt itself."             ~ Janet H.

How will I receive the class materials and meeting login information?

When you enroll, you will receive an email with links to download the class handout and the Welcome Letter.  The Welcome Letter has the Zoom login information.  These documents are also accessible via a button in your order confirmation. You can also go into your account on my store to see previous orders and download the documents from the order found there.

How do I share a quilt top to be reviewed for a quilting design?

Registered participants may email photos to me at ranaequilt@hotmail.com. Put "Layers & Lines [Your Name]" in the subject line. I will select participants' quilts to discuss from the photos received. Depending on the number of participants, there may or may not be time to discuss all quilts; I will include as many quilts as time permits.

  • Quilt photos must be received no later than two days before the class.
Photos received late may not be included in the lecture. There is no refund if quilt photos are not submitted on time or you don't show up for the lecture. However, if you have submitted a quilt for review in the lecture and I am unable to review it for some reason, I will schedule a 10-minute review with you at another time.

  • Images should be high-resolution, JPG or PNG no less than 1000 pixels high.
If you don't know what JPG or PNG means, ask someone before submitting the images. Please include at least three images, including one picture of the complete quilt and several detail shots.

  • Make sure that the images are well-lit and straight.
If possible, photograph the quilt hanging on a wall so that the corners are square, rather than lying it on a floor, table or bed. I typically am able to spend about 10 minutes on a quilt during the lecture, one quilt per person. If you would like more time, or would like to discuss multiple quilts, please schedule a private consultation.
