One of the great things about quilt shows is seeing all the wonderful quilts and picking out our favorites. I look in particular for interesting quilting designs and techniques to share with you all. A quilt that particularly stood out for me at the 2023 Minnesota Quilt Show was Denise Vokoun's Mid-Century Roses.
Denise's approach to quilting this was so simple yet so effective: she quilted the pieced roses, then repeated the quilting of the roses and leaves in the white space. A simple straight line fill contrasts and pops the curved lines of the roses. The quilt won an Honorable Mention - congratulations Denise!
This technique of using the quilting to expand the pieced design is a technique we are seeing more and more in modern quilts. If you have a lot of empty space to fill in a quilt, this technique might be just what you need.
If you would like to learn more about how to create a quilting design for your quilt, join my next Layers & Lines online class coming up Monday, July 17.
