This week I was asked about what kinds of large print fabrics will work for a FMM30 quilt. There are two types of large-print fabrics: allover designs and panel blocks. Which should you use? The answer depends upon what will happen in the final quilt design.
Panel blocks are good for creating focal points in a quilt. This is great if you're doing a small wall hanging, or a quilt with a theme. Blocks that finish to 10" square fit nicely into all of my FMM30 patterns.
An allover fabric is better for when the pattern serves as a texture in a design, as in my quilt Bamboo Beauty.
And maybe the best fabric is simply the one you have: just get started!
